How To Style: Shirt Dresses ♡

Hey everyone!

Something I picked up recently in Penny’s, which I have become a bit obsessed with, is this shirt dress.

IMG_0988.jpg

I was skeptical at first, thinking that it would overpower me or make me look lost in it (as I’m short and baggy dresses sometimes do that). But I was very pleasantly surprised.

This got me thinking of the many different ways I could make the dress look different and cool.

My initial thought was to wear it barelegged (I think tights could make it look too dark) and a simple pair of chelsea boots. Chelsea boots are just little black slip on boots if you weren’t sure.

IMG_0994.jpg

I’m actually not sure where I got my ones, but you can get a great pair from Schuh.

The second way I would have styled this, was with a pair of white converse runners, and a denim jacket. I think a denim jacket looks cool over almost anything (except more denim of course…)

You can get a pair like this from Schuh for €56.00

The third way I would style this shirt, is to wear it open (yes open) but put a white or grey tank top underneath and a pair of jeans or shorts. Leaving the shirt long and flowy immediately makes your outfit look sophisticated and put together.

Hope this interested some of you! Let me know how you would style this shirt dress, so I can get the most wear out of it possible.

Youtube Made Me Buy It

IMG_0890.JPG

Nearly every beauty product I buy, is something I saw being used in a youtube video and liked the look of it, or i saw some beauty blogger rave about it.

There’s nothing at all wrong with that! Reading about things online is a great way to make sure you don’t spend your money on something stupid.
However, when a product is being used, by a famous youtuber, under the right lighting with a catchy title and 1 million comments saying how great it is, it will always look better than it actually is. Among the MANY fantastic products I’ve bought because of youtube, I can admit that I’ve been convinced to buy items that i didn’t need because youtube made them so darn beautiful.

Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer

It seems to me that everyone and their sister uses this concealer to hide under-eye circles. I bought this about 6 months ago, and while I like it, I much prefer my cheaper and honestly, better coverage, Collection Lasting Perfection concealer. It is a good concealer, but i sometimes feel it gives me an orangey tone, does anyone else have that problem?

Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara

This one I am 100% happy with. Again nearly every single youtuber uses this mascara and I was coaxed into buying it. I’m so glad I did though because it is my absolute favourite. It’s just amazing and my lashes triple in size and darkness when I’ve got this on. Perfection.

Loreal Infallible Foundation

This is one I saw on Instagram a lot. The coverage looked incredible in the videos that I saw so I decided to give in and purchase it. It’s a reasonable price and a nice foundation for school and light-makeup days, but it’s definitely not high coverage. On top of it not being high enough coverage, I think the colour I bought was too light for me (but that one is my fault).

Morphe 35T palette

Morphe palettes are all the rage at the minute, with everyone fawning over their insane pigmentation and gorgeous colours. I was drooling over the 350 palette, for a long time and when I finally decided to buy it, it was out of stock. In a moment of pure impulse shopping, I decided to get the 35T instead. And I am in love with it. Seriously, I highly recommend this palette and all the other morphe palettes, they’re amazing.

Collection Loose Transluscent Powder

Have you heard of ‘baking’? No not the kind where you make cookies or cakes. Baking is a new trend of putting excess loose powder over your foundation to set it to the degree that it will not crease or budge for hours. Of course like every other trend I was roped into this one, but instead of splurging on the Laura Mercier powder that every. single. person. uses, I got the collection loose powder. It actually works quite well, and I especially like it for under my eyes as the concealer there creases a lot.

Is there any products you’ve bought because Youtube convinced you that you just need it? Let me know below

Lazy Day Guide ♡

hello hello!

Sorry I’ve been m.i.a for a bit, I’ve had a pretty full up week, and with school and everything time just sort of got away from me. but I’m back (and I’ve really missed blogging).

I’ve just got midterm holidays which means a week full of doing nothing (except blogging and binge watching netflix) which I’m very excited to do.

Anyways, today i’ve decided to go with the theme of doing absolutely nothing.
I’m a big fan of a lazy day here and there.
I’ve put together a little lazy day guide, a kind of “how-to” on relaxing and having the best lazy day ever. So if you’re in need of a day of a relaxation, or need some inspo for what to spend your Sunday doing, keep reading.

Processed with VSCO with hb2 preset

Get Comfy

The most important step. There’s no comfort in a lazy day where your face is caked with makeup and you’re wearing your skinniest jeans. Choose your oldest sweatpants and some fluffy socks for the ultimate “Lazy Day” experience.

IMG_0855.JPG

Netflix

There’s so many great shows and movies on Netflix, that you’ll never run out of things to keep you entertained. Some of my favourites at the minute, are Gossip Girl, American Horror Story, How to get away with murder, and Black Mirror.

IMG_0854.JPG

Reading

If you don’t like reading, obviously this step isn’t for you, but I personally love a good book on a lazy day. It’s one of the things that relaxes me most in the world.

IMG_0852.JPG

Nice Scents

My top tip for nice scents is use them in your bath or shower. Scents that you love, can be super calming and it’s always nice to smell good. Lush has some incredible scents, so you’re bound to find one you like in there. I really like vanilla scents so I get a lot of use out of this little Vanilla Dee-Lite body lotion.

Outfit Planning

If you find it difficult to be unproductive (which it can be sometimes) there’s always useful things you can do around the house that I find almost therapeutic, one being, outfit planning. This is fun, as well as relaxing. Just go through your wardrobe and pick out things that you think look good together. Also, if there’s anything you don’t wear anymore, or have grown out of, put it aside and you can give to it a friend or to charity. Cleaning out your wardrobe is like a breath of fresh air.

Other things that perfect a lazy day:

Music

Snacks

Looking through old photos

Sorting out your makeup

Online shopping

Arts and crafts

Painting your nails

Mystery Blogger Award ♡

Well this is a lovely surprise to brighten up my Friday evening! I was nominated for the Mystery Blogger Award by the lovely Liv Laugh Discover which totally flattered me and made me smile so thank you. Her blog is fantastic too, so check her out.

The Mystery Blogger Award was created by OkotoEnigma’sBlog and the rules are this:

List the rules.

Thank the blogger who nominated you and provide a link to the nominator’s blog.

Mention the creator of the award and provide a link as well

Tell your readers 3 things about yourself

Answer 5 questions from the nominator

Nominate 10 or more people

Notify your nominees by leaving the nomination link in the “comment” of their blog

Ask your nominees any 5 questions of your choice, with one weird or funny question (specify)

3 things about me:

  1. I love tea and coffee. Warm things and feeling cosy are my favourite.
  2. I love art. I draw and paint a lot and I recently won an art competition which I’m very excited about.
  3. My favourite thing about blogging, aside from feeling happy with myself for what I’ve posted, is the feedback I get from my followers and people who read my posts. It truly makes me feel all warm and tingly inside every time.

LivLaughDiscover’s questions:

  1. If you could have any kind of magical power, invisibility, fly, etc. What would it be?

It would be invisibility for sure. There’s a nosey part of me that would just love to listen to peoples conversations without them seeing me. Also you could sneak into concerts and onto airplanes without paying so..?

2. Cats… or dogs?

This is awful because I love both! But I have a golden retriever who is my whole heart and I love her so much I’d feel like I was betraying her by saying cats lol. So dogs.

3. If you had a time machine, and you could go to any time, future or past, and in any place, Africa, America, England, anywhere. Where would you go and why?

This is such a cool question. I really don’t know though, maybe like New York City in the 20’s or something like that. But also Ancient Rome would be amazing. But I’d definitely go to the past, I’m not sure I’d like to see the future. Whatever will be will be.

4. What is your dream home?

This is a boring answer, but from someone who’s lived in the countryside all their life, my dream home is literally any kind of apartment in a city. But when I get old I’d love to live by the sea somewhere.

5. Favorite day of the week and why?

Saturday for sure, because it’s a day without school or responsibilities and you can do whatever you want.

My Questions

  1. What country would you most like to visit in the world?
  2. What’s one thing you absolutely not live without.?
  3. Have you ever done something and instantly regretted it?
  4. Who in your life do you feel closest to and why?
  5. Is there a fear you have that you’d like to conquer someday?

Teenage Skincare Routine ♡

I don’t have the best skin, so I’m definitely not claiming to be an expect about skincare and how to get perfect skin, because mine is far from perfect. This is just a little routine of what I do nightly to my face. I’ve included pictures of all the products below and if you want any more information about any of them, ask in the comments.

I start by taking off any makeup I had on during the day. To do this I use to Garnier Micellar water on a cotton pad. It says that you don’t need to rinse this off your face but I do it anyway. Then I wash my face with warm water.

IMG_0767.jpg

Next comes toner. I’ve used this one for years and it’s basically just a mixture of Witchhazel and Rosewater which is excellent for drying up spots and it smells really good too. I put that on a cotton pad and put it all over my face.

IMG_0768.jpg

After that I use a spot cream on any blemishes I have. I use a cream called Duac which I find really good, but you can use any spot treatment that works for you. I put a tiny bit of that directly on any spots and let it dry in.

After that’s dried in I use a Simple moisturiser. I have quite sensitive skin and moisturisers that are too heavy, can make me break out. Simple is really soft and light. I put that all over again.

IMG_0769.jpg

I like to do a face mask once a week if I can. This one is my favourite and it’s the Mask of Magnaminty from Lush. Everyone raves about this mask and I know why now because it’s amazing.

IMG_0763.jpg

It’s possibly one of my favourite smells ever and it makes my skin feel so smooth and hydrated.

Apply a layer of it all over your face and leave it for about 10-15 minutes. Then wash it off with warm water and voila. I highly highly recommend this mask for anyone who has slightly oily or acne prone skin.

Thats basically it! My other tips for keeping your skin as clear as possible is drinking lots of water, trying to avoid touching your face at all and ALWAYS remove your makeup before you go to bed. Other than that, being a teenager usually comes with a little bit of acne. It’s totally normal to get a few spots here and there and it’s not the end of the world. Just take care of your skin and wait out the pesky teenage skin days.

Let me know some of your skin tips! See you soon,

Cute Bedroom/Homeware Accessories ♡

Hi everyone!

Sorry I had a little break this week, I’ve just been really busy with school and some other things. Anyways, I went to Pennys yesterday and had a look in their homeware section. I absolutely love finding little things to put in my bedroom, or little decorations for around the house. I found some really cute ones yesterday, so I thought I’d write up a little bit about how I’ve used them, and how to make your bedroom look more put together.

IMG_0725.jpg

This is my windowsill. I’ve decorated it with candles and some tiny fake plants which I think add colour and just make it look really cool.

I got these little plants in Pennys for only €2 each.

IMG_0728.jpg

I got this candle too, which smells amazing. It’s Clementine and Honey scented but Pennys have such a huge range of candles. I’m a candle addict, but I’m quite fussy when it comes to smells, theres a lot I don’t like. This one is light but sweet and it’s delicious.

IMG_0070.jpg

This is my bookshelf, and I like to display my books like this, so you can see them all. I think bookshelves always look nice in a room. I think I got my one from Ikea. The “A” candle I got from Asda, and they came in every letter.

img_2078

There’s something nice too, about displaying music. I think it makes a room more personalised. Here are just some CD’s that I have displayed on my bookshelf.

There are so many ways you can add colour and character to your room. Some other things that I love are fairy lights, photos of family and friends, a bulletin board which you can stick things onto, like old concert tickets or to-do lists.

I’d also like to apologise for the crappiness of these photos, I wasn’t able to take any before it got dark, so I had to make do with the flash. I hope you all have a lovely Sunday and a good week. Leave me a comment below and let me know what you’re up to!

Mini NYX makeup haul

Hey everyone!

Last week I went to Dublin with my mom and my sister on a little post Christmas shopping trip, to try and grab some of what was left of the sales. Liffey Valley, the shopping centre we went to, recently got an NYX counter, which is full of gorgeous NYX products. NYX is one of my favourite makeup brands, even though my nearest shop that stocks NYX is minuscule compared to this huge counter. I managed to narrow down my purchases and I came out with 4 things.
I thought I’d leave this post a few days so I could try out the products and give a really detailed and honest review of them. So here you go!

img_0654

Pore Filler primer

I was so confused by this product. I expected a much creamier, moisturiser like consistency, like most primers are, but this is so weird! It’s got an almost chalky/satiny like feel to it. I focused it mainly on the centre of my face, where my pores are most visible and I love the way it made my foundation look. I also think my makeup stays on way longer because of this. If you have slightly oily skin like I do, I would recommend highly, however it is VERY mattifying so if you have dry skin you might not like this.

img_0655

Liquid Suede Lipstick- 03 Sandstorm

I walked out of the shop with 30 swatches on my hand trying to find the perfect colour and I got damn near close to it with this one. I love this colour so much. I’d heard good things about the Liquid Suede lipsticks. They go on really nicely, and dry matte which I love. They don’t dry out your lips and are super easy to apply.

fullsizerender

the NYX Wonderstick

This is so cool. I’m not a huge fan of cream contour but I tried this out anyway and it’s so easy to blend and it comes out really nice. If anything, I like it apply it underneath my powder contour and it makes it look really nice. The other side of the stick, is a cream highlighter stick, which isn’t very pigmented but the contour side makes up for it.

img_0652

Pigment- Diamonds

I couldn’t help myself with this one! I have had a bit of a love affair with glitter recently (refer to Glitterbug> https://alanathropology.wordpress.com/2016/11/02/glitter-bug/ ). This shade is like a white/silver colour and its shimmery and sparkly and all things beautiful. I want all the colours now!

Have you tried any amazing NYX products? Let me know what they are!
