Girls Supporting Girls

I know I’m a few days late with this post, but I felt like I couldn’t let this iconic day pass without writing about it. My blog needed a little lift of feminine power on the day that encourages it most. I was inspired to write this by reading Zoella’s (my favourite lady blogger) blog post about women that inspire her and female encouragement.

I’ve learned through years of being friends with girls who do nothing but tear each other down, that the only way we’ll get anywhere in life, is if we LIFT EACH OTHER UP. It’s so simple. Girls who support other girls. Its important. My best friends now, who have been there for me through thick and thin, are some of the most beautiful, strong human beings you will ever meet. That’s the kind of woman you want to be. Thats the kind of sister, mother, aunt, cousin, neighbour or best friend you want to be.

I felt like this week, I needed to write about female encouragement, because seeing all the beautiful posts online about international womens day, reminded me of the power that can come from girl supporting girl, woman supporting woman. Encourage each other, use your energy for making other girls feel good about themselves. There’s enough toxicity in the world without women tearing each other down. Spread the love.

On that note, I want to make an offer to all you beautiful girl-bloggers out there. I’ve had nothing but incredibly support since I started my blog (all the likes and lovely comments) and I’m so grateful. If you want to form a support system, maybe do some sort of collaboration with me, I would love that. I feel like girls supporting girls should be put into practise on here too. Let me know in the comments, what women inspire you and if you’d like to collab on something!

The Best Weekend ♡

I finally have a second to breathe, sit down and write about this weekend without any interruptions. So basically, I’ve had this weekend planned for a long time. In September, me and my two best friends bought tickets to go see one of my favourite artists, Jacob Whitesides. The day finally came around, last Friday.

If anyone knows the struggle of going to concerts when you live in the countryside then you’ll understand this post. Concerts are so much more of a big deal when you live so far from the venue. On Friday morning, we ditched school and got on a bus for 3 and a half hours to Dublin. We walked around all day, in the rain, our clothes and our feet soaking. We stayed that night with my friends sister who lives in Dublin, and we got changed there. Then we went to the concert.

img_0920

Jacob Whitesides does this thing for his tours, where the first 25 people who buy tickets get free meet and greet. We were in the first 25 so we got to meet him! I was so nervous. I had never met someone who was actually famous before. I’ve been listening to his music since 2013, it was so strange to see him in person, and have him give me a hug. He was so so sweet though and even more beautiful in person than he is on a screen. The concert was amazing. His voice in angelic, and he just had so much energy and looked like he was having such a good time.

Afterwards, we wandered around Dublin, just people watching and enjoying the Friday nightlife. Back in the apartment, we had a pizza and talked about the show and went to sleep.

The next morning we got the bus back at 10 o’clock, which didn’t seem early the night before, but was painfully early when we had to drag our tired bodies to the bus station. The bus journey home felt so long too. When we finally got back I barely had time to have a cup of tea and I was off again, to a school football match. Unfortunately our team lost but it was a good match nevertheless.

Straight after, I rushed home and got ready to go out, as it was a friends birthday. By then I was exhausted but I refused to let the fatigue get me down. I went out anyways and we had such a fun night.

This morning I woke up, with absolutely no voice but I suppose thats just a sign of a well-spent weekend!

What did you get up to this weekend? Did it leave you without a voice too?

Also, I highly recommend all of you, dropping whatever you’re doing right now, and listening to Jacob Whitesides music. He’s so talented and his music deserves to be played more. Have an amazing week!

Youtube Made Me Buy It

IMG_0890.JPG

Nearly every beauty product I buy, is something I saw being used in a youtube video and liked the look of it, or i saw some beauty blogger rave about it.

There’s nothing at all wrong with that! Reading about things online is a great way to make sure you don’t spend your money on something stupid.
However, when a product is being used, by a famous youtuber, under the right lighting with a catchy title and 1 million comments saying how great it is, it will always look better than it actually is. Among the MANY fantastic products I’ve bought because of youtube, I can admit that I’ve been convinced to buy items that i didn’t need because youtube made them so darn beautiful.

Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer

It seems to me that everyone and their sister uses this concealer to hide under-eye circles. I bought this about 6 months ago, and while I like it, I much prefer my cheaper and honestly, better coverage, Collection Lasting Perfection concealer. It is a good concealer, but i sometimes feel it gives me an orangey tone, does anyone else have that problem?

Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara

This one I am 100% happy with. Again nearly every single youtuber uses this mascara and I was coaxed into buying it. I’m so glad I did though because it is my absolute favourite. It’s just amazing and my lashes triple in size and darkness when I’ve got this on. Perfection.

Loreal Infallible Foundation

This is one I saw on Instagram a lot. The coverage looked incredible in the videos that I saw so I decided to give in and purchase it. It’s a reasonable price and a nice foundation for school and light-makeup days, but it’s definitely not high coverage. On top of it not being high enough coverage, I think the colour I bought was too light for me (but that one is my fault).

Morphe 35T palette

Morphe palettes are all the rage at the minute, with everyone fawning over their insane pigmentation and gorgeous colours. I was drooling over the 350 palette, for a long time and when I finally decided to buy it, it was out of stock. In a moment of pure impulse shopping, I decided to get the 35T instead. And I am in love with it. Seriously, I highly recommend this palette and all the other morphe palettes, they’re amazing.

Collection Loose Transluscent Powder

Have you heard of ‘baking’? No not the kind where you make cookies or cakes. Baking is a new trend of putting excess loose powder over your foundation to set it to the degree that it will not crease or budge for hours. Of course like every other trend I was roped into this one, but instead of splurging on the Laura Mercier powder that every. single. person. uses, I got the collection loose powder. It actually works quite well, and I especially like it for under my eyes as the concealer there creases a lot.

Is there any products you’ve bought because Youtube convinced you that you just need it? Let me know below

Lazy Day Guide ♡

hello hello!

Sorry I’ve been m.i.a for a bit, I’ve had a pretty full up week, and with school and everything time just sort of got away from me. but I’m back (and I’ve really missed blogging).

I’ve just got midterm holidays which means a week full of doing nothing (except blogging and binge watching netflix) which I’m very excited to do.

Anyways, today i’ve decided to go with the theme of doing absolutely nothing.
I’m a big fan of a lazy day here and there.
I’ve put together a little lazy day guide, a kind of “how-to” on relaxing and having the best lazy day ever. So if you’re in need of a day of a relaxation, or need some inspo for what to spend your Sunday doing, keep reading.

Get Comfy

The most important step. There’s no comfort in a lazy day where your face is caked with makeup and you’re wearing your skinniest jeans. Choose your oldest sweatpants and some fluffy socks for the ultimate “Lazy Day” experience.

IMG_0855.JPG

Netflix

There’s so many great shows and movies on Netflix, that you’ll never run out of things to keep you entertained. Some of my favourites at the minute, are Gossip Girl, American Horror Story, How to get away with murder, and Black Mirror.

IMG_0854.JPG

Reading

If you don’t like reading, obviously this step isn’t for you, but I personally love a good book on a lazy day. It’s one of the things that relaxes me most in the world.

IMG_0852.JPG

Nice Scents

My top tip for nice scents is use them in your bath or shower. Scents that you love, can be super calming and it’s always nice to smell good. Lush has some incredible scents, so you’re bound to find one you like in there. I really like vanilla scents so I get a lot of use out of this little Vanilla Dee-Lite body lotion.

Outfit Planning

If you find it difficult to be unproductive (which it can be sometimes) there’s always useful things you can do around the house that I find almost therapeutic, one being, outfit planning. This is fun, as well as relaxing. Just go through your wardrobe and pick out things that you think look good together. Also, if there’s anything you don’t wear anymore, or have grown out of, put it aside and you can give to it a friend or to charity. Cleaning out your wardrobe is like a breath of fresh air.

Other things that perfect a lazy day:

Music

Snacks

Looking through old photos

Sorting out your makeup

Online shopping

Arts and crafts

Painting your nails

Perfect Valentines Day Makeup ♡

Whether your Valentines Day is spent having a fancy dinner with a special someone, or having a Gossip Girl marathon on your own, it’s nice to look nice.

Obviously, you don’t need to have a Valentine or even plans to get yourself all done up.

I’ve put together some of my favourite products that I think would make a really lovely Valentines Day makeup look.

IMG_0796.jpg

Going with the traditional colours of Valentines Day I chose lots of pinks and reds.

There’s nothing to draw the eye like a bold lip and a lashing of highlight, which are actually two of my favourite things. I’ve included the Laura Mercier illuminating tinted moisturiser, which gives the most beautiful glowy look to your skin.

img_0572

My highlight of choice, is of course the SoSu palette. I’ve mentioned it before and expressed my love for these six shades of pure shimmery heaven.

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

The lipsticks I chose are;

(clockwise)

Rimmel Kate Moss lipstick shade 101

Rimmel lipstick in shade 170 Alarm

Sleek Matte Me lip cream in Birthday Suit

NYX soft matte lip cream in the shade Istanbul

Rimmel lipstick in shade Trendsetter

As you can see I’m a big fan of Rimmel lipsticks. They’re long lasting, smell great and super affordable. I couldn’t recommend them enough, if you’re looking to try out some new colours and don’t want to spend too much.

Well that’s it! If you have any other products you think would look great for Valentines Day, let me know. Also, comment below and let me know what your plans are (if you’ve got any?), I love reading your comments!

Cute Bedroom/Homeware Accessories ♡

Hi everyone!

Sorry I had a little break this week, I’ve just been really busy with school and some other things. Anyways, I went to Pennys yesterday and had a look in their homeware section. I absolutely love finding little things to put in my bedroom, or little decorations for around the house. I found some really cute ones yesterday, so I thought I’d write up a little bit about how I’ve used them, and how to make your bedroom look more put together.

IMG_0725.jpg

This is my windowsill. I’ve decorated it with candles and some tiny fake plants which I think add colour and just make it look really cool.

I got these little plants in Pennys for only €2 each.

IMG_0728.jpg

I got this candle too, which smells amazing. It’s Clementine and Honey scented but Pennys have such a huge range of candles. I’m a candle addict, but I’m quite fussy when it comes to smells, theres a lot I don’t like. This one is light but sweet and it’s delicious.

IMG_0070.jpg

This is my bookshelf, and I like to display my books like this, so you can see them all. I think bookshelves always look nice in a room. I think I got my one from Ikea. The “A” candle I got from Asda, and they came in every letter.

img_2078

There’s something nice too, about displaying music. I think it makes a room more personalised. Here are just some CD’s that I have displayed on my bookshelf.

There are so many ways you can add colour and character to your room. Some other things that I love are fairy lights, photos of family and friends, a bulletin board which you can stick things onto, like old concert tickets or to-do lists.

I’d also like to apologise for the crappiness of these photos, I wasn’t able to take any before it got dark, so I had to make do with the flash. I hope you all have a lovely Sunday and a good week. Leave me a comment below and let me know what you’re up to!

Mini NYX makeup haul

Hey everyone!

Last week I went to Dublin with my mom and my sister on a little post Christmas shopping trip, to try and grab some of what was left of the sales. Liffey Valley, the shopping centre we went to, recently got an NYX counter, which is full of gorgeous NYX products. NYX is one of my favourite makeup brands, even though my nearest shop that stocks NYX is minuscule compared to this huge counter. I managed to narrow down my purchases and I came out with 4 things.
I thought I’d leave this post a few days so I could try out the products and give a really detailed and honest review of them. So here you go!

img_0654

Pore Filler primer

I was so confused by this product. I expected a much creamier, moisturiser like consistency, like most primers are, but this is so weird! It’s got an almost chalky/satiny like feel to it. I focused it mainly on the centre of my face, where my pores are most visible and I love the way it made my foundation look. I also think my makeup stays on way longer because of this. If you have slightly oily skin like I do, I would recommend highly, however it is VERY mattifying so if you have dry skin you might not like this.

img_0655

Liquid Suede Lipstick- 03 Sandstorm

I walked out of the shop with 30 swatches on my hand trying to find the perfect colour and I got damn near close to it with this one. I love this colour so much. I’d heard good things about the Liquid Suede lipsticks. They go on really nicely, and dry matte which I love. They don’t dry out your lips and are super easy to apply.

fullsizerender

the NYX Wonderstick

This is so cool. I’m not a huge fan of cream contour but I tried this out anyway and it’s so easy to blend and it comes out really nice. If anything, I like it apply it underneath my powder contour and it makes it look really nice. The other side of the stick, is a cream highlighter stick, which isn’t very pigmented but the contour side makes up for it.

Pigment- Diamonds

I couldn’t help myself with this one! I have had a bit of a love affair with glitter recently (refer to Glitterbug> https://alanathropology.wordpress.com/2016/11/02/glitter-bug/ ). This shade is like a white/silver colour and its shimmery and sparkly and all things beautiful. I want all the colours now!

Have you tried any amazing NYX products? Let me know what they are!
