Lazy Day Guide ♡

hello hello!

Sorry I’ve been m.i.a for a bit, I’ve had a pretty full up week, and with school and everything time just sort of got away from me. but I’m back (and I’ve really missed blogging).

I’ve just got midterm holidays which means a week full of doing nothing (except blogging and binge watching netflix) which I’m very excited to do.

Anyways, today i’ve decided to go with the theme of doing absolutely nothing.
I’m a big fan of a lazy day here and there.
I’ve put together a little lazy day guide, a kind of “how-to” on relaxing and having the best lazy day ever. So if you’re in need of a day of a relaxation, or need some inspo for what to spend your Sunday doing, keep reading.

Get Comfy

The most important step. There’s no comfort in a lazy day where your face is caked with makeup and you’re wearing your skinniest jeans. Choose your oldest sweatpants and some fluffy socks for the ultimate “Lazy Day” experience.

There’s so many great shows and movies on Netflix, that you’ll never run out of things to keep you entertained. Some of my favourites at the minute, are Gossip Girl, American Horror Story, How to get away with murder, and Black Mirror.

If you don’t like reading, obviously this step isn’t for you, but I personally love a good book on a lazy day. It’s one of the things that relaxes me most in the world.

Nice Scents

My top tip for nice scents is use them in your bath or shower. Scents that you love, can be super calming and it’s always nice to smell good. Lush has some incredible scents, so you’re bound to find one you like in there. I really like vanilla scents so I get a lot of use out of this little Vanilla Dee-Lite body lotion.

Outfit Planning

If you find it difficult to be unproductive (which it can be sometimes) there’s always useful things you can do around the house that I find almost therapeutic, one being, outfit planning. This is fun, as well as relaxing. Just go through your wardrobe and pick out things that you think look good together. Also, if there’s anything you don’t wear anymore, or have grown out of, put it aside and you can give to it a friend or to charity. Cleaning out your wardrobe is like a breath of fresh air.

Other things that perfect a lazy day:

Looking through old photos

Sorting out your makeup

Online shopping

Arts and crafts

Painting your nails

Netflix shows you NEED to watch

Coming into the colder seasons of Autumn/Winter, I know that if theres one thing to do on long dark evenings, it’s find a really great TV show. I decided to list a few of my favourite shows to maybe give you some inspiration for new TV material and let you know what I thought. So enjoy!

1. Breaking Bad

Probably my favourite show of all time. My dad actually put me onto it about a year ago and after one episode I knew I had been late to the party once again. I was hooked! I absolutely adore this show. It has everything you want from a series. No shortage of drama, crime, family stuff, love, loss and incredible characters you fall in and out of love with. I recommend this to anyone at all, although there are some violent scenes so if you’re very young or don’t like that sort of thing, maybe not for you.

2. How to get away with murder

This show is amazing, There are currently 3 seasons, but only one is available on Irish Netflix so I’ve been watching on another website. Viola Davis and all the rest of the actors on this show are just fantastic and the plot never gets boring.

3. American Horror Story
I’m a massive fan of scary things. I adore Halloween and horror movies and scaring myself. American Horror Story has been one of my favourite shows for the last few years and this most recent season is slowly becoming one of my favourites so far. I would have to give season 4, Freakshow, my number one spot as its just insane to watch. This show has made Sara Paulson, one of my favourite actresses. Plus Evan Peters is gorgeous which is a hell of a bonus.

4. Orange is the new black

Like probably everyone on the planet, I’ve watched and loved this show since the beginning. The character development in this show keeps you coming back and I could write a full blogpost on the final episode of this season (not spoiling anything for those of you who live under a rock and HAVEN’T seen it (lol just kidding)). It’s funny, it’s dramatic, it deals with serious issues that most shows wouldn’t dare tackle, and it shows women in a true, pure, raw and non sugar coated light. Props to you, creators of this show. Serious props. But we NEED to talk about that season finale because I have WORDS to say to you.

5. Gossip Girl

This show is just a classic. Thank God Netflix has the entire series, as I find myself every now and then going back to watch an episode or two. Gossip Girl pretty much has everything, fashion, hot guys, family drama and New York city. If you like light hearted TV watching I highly recommend.

6. Pretty little liars
Again, if you’re into drama TV with teenagers being the main characters, you will love this show. Pretty Little Liars is definitely heavier than Gossip Girl, being that a lot of it is based around murder and being stalked. It’s just a really great show and keeps you interested all the time. It’s ending soon and I am devastated to say the least.

7. Jane the virgin
I really liked this show! I think i watched the full first season in about a week. I adore Gina Rodriguez who plays Jane, the main character. She’s hilarious and the show is so funny. If you like light hearted funny TV this is for you.

8. Stranger Things
This one is obvious if you’re a frequent reader of my blogposts because I already did a full post about why it was the show of the year. I absolutely love this show. Everything about it. The actors are incredible, the plot is so intriguing, To read more reasons click here

9. Skins
I started this show under the order of my friend, at the start of the summer and it became my summer show. I finished all the seasons (although seasons 1&2 were my favourite). This is an english show and is basically just a mess of teenagers having sex, doing drugs and getting into trouble. I fell in love with one particular character, Effy Stonem, who is the misunderstood quiet girl with a bad streak. I love Skins. If you’re looking for something that’ll give you a proper insight into teenagers lives, without it being glamourised by designer fashion and americanised television, this is the one.

10. Full House

Probably the opposite to Skins, but Full House is just one of those warm, sugary sweet adorable family shows that always makes you feel good. I’ve watched Full House since I was little and it being on Netflix is a blessing as I always find myself going back to it when I want to reminisce or just watch something really light hearted and cute.

Why Stranger Things is the best show of 2016.

It’s all in the title.

I am OBSESSED with this show. I started watching it one evening mid-summer when I was bored and had finished the show I was previously watching. I had heard the hype about it, and honestly I didn’t think I’d like it. From what I’d heard it was very science-fiction-y and not really something I would usually enjoy. I decided to give it a go anyway and I am so freaking glad I did.

For any of you who haven’t seen Stranger Things yet, it’s basically an 8 episode Netflix series, set in 1983, in a small town. The show follows the disappearance of a boy named Will Byers, his 3 best friends who are doing whatever they can to find their friend, and Will’s family. His mother is played by Winona Ryder, who is one of my favourite actresses purely because my favourite movie ever is Girl, Interrupted in which she plays Susanna. I absolutely loved this show and below is my list of reasons why it should be added to your Netflix list immediately.

1. Winona Ryder

Screen Shot 2016-09-04 at 00.36.01

She’s just an amazing actress. Playing the role of Will’s distraught mother suited her to a T. She perfectly portrayed the mother of a missing child, desperate and eager for answers. I’ve always been a fan of Winona’s and when I saw that she was in this show, it made it automatically 10 times better.

2. The 80’s vibes

Screen Shot 2016-09-04 at 00.34.48

80’s everything is just so much cooler. There was a lot of focus on the high school students and what they got up to (looking at you Nancy and Steve). It was just so different and magical getting to watch teenagers in a different time period. It was nice actually, watching Nancy fawn over Steve without checking her phone every 10 minutes for his most recent snapchat or Instagram.

3. The Style

Screen Shot 2016-09-04 at 01.01.10

Their style! Apparently I’m not the only one who picked up on the chic, timeless edge that Barb and Nancy were sporting. It’s become quite a talking point of the show. Barb is serving this kind of preppy librarian look that oddly works, while Nancy dresses like a preschooler and still manages to look adorable and very much in style at the moment. I adore the styling in the show. It’s all very 80’s with the cable knit jumpers and high waisted pants. Each character has their own personal style and its really made the show even more interesting for me.

4. The kids

Screen Shot 2016-09-04 at 00.35.33Screen Shot 2016-09-04 at 01.01.58

The kids in the show are incredible. Not only are they amazing actors they just bring fun and humour to the show which would be really dark without some jokes here and there. The friendship of the boys is the stand out theme of the show for me. Its heart warming to see the lengths they will go to to help each other. There’s an air of innocence they bring and while the show has things like missing persons and crazy-scary government people, theres also some adorable scenes where the kids are just cycling their bikes or playing board games.

5. How badass Eleven is

How can you not love her? She stole my heart from the beginning. Eleven is a little girl with… special powers (without giving away anything) who has clearly been mistreated by whoever she’s been raised by. She befriends the boys and becomes their kind of weapon and saviour at the same time. As well as being a total badass who can do amazing things with her mind, Eleven (or El) is a sweetheart, who just wants to eat eggo waffles and be loved. She breaks my heart and warms it all at the same time.

6. The soundtrack

No picture for this one, but I can say that Jonathan Byers, is the music expert in the show. He is seen in part of the show, giving a mixtape to his younger brother before he goes missing. One song on that tape that makes an appearance several times throughout the show, is “should I stay or should I go” by the Clash. A great song, a great show. All round thumbs up from alana.

Have I convinced you yet? I surely hope so! If you’ve already watched Stranger Things let me know below if you enjoyed it as much as I did. If you haven’t, but plan to after reading this, let me know too! Thanks so much for reading.
